Wow, a full two months since my last post. I’m whack, I know.
This doesn’t mean I haven’t been making moves. I’ve got photos up of Lupe Fiasco, Slick Rick, and Pharoah Monch.
Let’s start with Lupe.
Dude showed up with like 17 backup singers and a live band. Live bands are becoming a bigger trend every day in the world of hip hop shows and I really don’t feel it’s a positive thing. Yeah we all know The Roots pulled it off and they make it work. But you aren’t, and you don’t. The backup singers I can deal with but the 5-7 additional cats with various instruments are unnecessary in my opinion. In all honesty as much as it annoys me, it wouldn’t have been so bad if the sound man had his shit together. Lupe has a great stage presence and the crowd was really into the show but I’m assuming most of them knew all of his songs. If I had never listened to him before I would have been heated because you could BARELY hear him over the band. Another controversial aspect of the show was the length of his set. I’ve been to a lot of shows. All kinds of shows, all different genres. I’m all about getting what you pay for and tickets were $20+ but lupe was on stage for 2 and a half hours. He damn near went through both of his albums in their entirety. I’ve never seen a headliner perform that long. ever. A lot of people might view this as a good thing, maybe I’m just a hater. haha. But I like Lupe’s music and it was a good show despite what i felt were shortcomings. 99.9% of the people there didn’t even seem to have issues with any of this so this is all just me talking.
Next Up: Slick Rick
I’ll write something up on this show when I get a chance. I’m at work.
Peace.
I realize I’ve been MIA for a minute but I’ve been mad busy. I need to make this photography thing full time…
Aesop Rock and Little Brother both rocked shows a few weeks back. For whatever reason someone somewhere thought it would be a good idea to schedule two amazing hip hop shows for the same night. I was going to try to catch both of them but Aesop didn’t work out (all the tickets were gone). So I shot the LB show at stubbs.
Phonte is a wild dude. In the middle of the show he busted out into a Michael Jackson solo. I had never gotten the chance to catch them live for whatever reason but I was definitely impressed. Rocked the crowd until they literally had to kick him off of the stage because it was past 2am. Photos are up on my site as per usual.
Things are kind of slow right now on the hip hop front. The next show I know of will be Cut Chemist and DJ Shadow in Jan. and I don’t even know if I’ll be able to take photos of that.

If you go to Okayplayer.com right now and scroll down the front page to the entry from 10/8/07 you will find a picture of lupe I took when he came to Austin with the roots. If only you knew what I had to do to get that shot. As alway, the love is definitely appreciated.
heres a bonus shot:

Also, while on the subject of Okayplayer…
Theres a review up of the Introspectrum.

It just so happens that I did the design and photography for the record and I can’t stress to you enough how dope that album is. I know Jaz and Leroy personally and I can tell you the kids are going places. You can find it on iTunes. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I’ve got a few weeks left to come up with a costume idea.
Some how i need to top this:

Today me and smaals were talking about munnys. I came up with a plan to make an MF DOOM munny a few months ago, with a mask and all that. It was of course, quickly added to my list of unfinished projects. He asked me about it today and said that I should finish it and sell it on ebay.
I was like, “And when people call to ask me why it didn’t show up, I could tell them it’s just like the real DOOM.”
My name is Isaac and I take photos.
I live in Austin and I collect vinyl toys.
I work a day job to support my dreams.
I’m a so-so writer and my pictures aren’t too bad.
Welcome to my Giant Peach blog.
